Within the framework of the 7th session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), Hambartsum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Mary Creagh, Minister for Nature of the UK.
During the meeting, the sides reviewed progress on the commitments made at COP30 in Brazil, as well as the outcomes of their bilateral discussions held in New York in September.
They also talked about the preparations for the COP17 of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, which Armenia will host in 2026. The discussion covered organizational and substantive planning processes, the key thematic directions of the conference agenda, opportunities for engaging international partners, and issues related to biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, financing mechanisms, and capacity building.
Minister Matevosyan presented the conference’s newly designed logo and slogan to Mary Creagh, outlining the underlying concept, which reflects both the importance of biodiversity conservation and the core values of Armenia’s environmental policy as the host country.
The parties also discussed the role of the Cali Fund in biodiversity conservation and in developing financial instruments to support the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and advancing joint efforts.
