The Minister of environment Hakob Simidyan met the delegation headed by the Director of the Armenian representation of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Naufel Telahige.
Deputy Minister Gayane Gabrielyan took part in the meeting.
Welcoming his colleagues, Minister Hakob Simidyan touched upon the experience of long-term cooperation between the Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
Within the framework of cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the International Fund for Agricultural Development, 7 programs totaling 89.51 million US dollars have been implemented and implemented in the Republic with the funds of the Fund since 1995.
During the meeting, the parties touched upon the programs implemented with the cooperation of the Ministry and the Foundation, the priorities of the Ministry of the Environment in the context of adaptation to climate change and outlined possible areas for further cooperation.
Cooperation between the Ministry of the Environment and the Federal Republic of Germany is currently being carried out within the framework of the program "Assistance to Infrastructures and Rural Finance", funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
The International Fund for Agricultural Development expressed interest in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment within the framework of the Adaptation Fund, about which Minister Hakob Simidyan expressed readiness for discussion.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development initiated a mission to review the results of the Strategic opportunities program of Armenia. The Strategic Opportunities Program of Armenia was approved in 2018 and covers 2018-2024. This is a strategic document on cooperation between the RA and the IFAD. The purpose of the Armenian mission of the IFAD team is to assess the progress of the implementation of the strategic document.
The main focus of the strategic document is the development of agriculture and agribusiness.
One of the areas of cooperation outlined in the document is also cooperation in the field of natural resource management and adaptation to climate change in the context of agricultural development, in particular, research and capacity development in the field of climate-resistant technologies, crop insurance, capacity development in the field of innovative technologies and climate change adaptation policy.
During the meeting, possible cooperation in the context of water resources management, green economy and the development of a climate strategy was also discussed.
Minister Hakob Simidyan expressed readiness to contribute to the smooth and effective implementation of all programs aimed at ensuring sustainable management and environmental protection through the application of the best international experience
