Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan took part in the high-level dialogue held in Kenya within the framework of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) Day. The session aimed to summarize the key assumptions and outcomes of the discussions, present current challenges and achievements, and formulate possible action-oriented solutions.
The dialogue sought to draw systematic conclusions from the exchanges held, clarify the steps that can guide Member States, the UN Environment Programme, and the convention secretariats in strengthening synergies between the agreements and enhancing the effectiveness of their implementation.
During the discussion, speakers had the opportunity to consolidate joint approaches that can help reinforce the existing interlinkages and cooperation in the implementation of multilateral environmental agreements.
In his remarks, Minister Matevosyan presented Armenia’s position on the coordinated implementation of MEAs and the need to enhance the effectiveness of environmental governance. He also answered questions from participants.
He noted that Armenia’s experience demonstrates that integrated approaches and systemic policies significantly increase the effectiveness of biodiversity conservation, while simultaneously embedding it within climate action, water resource management, agriculture, land use, and other areas of sustainable development.
Minister Matevosyan emphasized that the presidency of COP17 entails both a special responsibility and unique opportunities to contribute to the deepening of international cooperation. He stated that Armenia stands ready to apply its national experience, promote science-based policies, support the expansion of synergies, and advance initiatives that will serve the global goals of biodiversity conservation.
