Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan Met With Garo Batmanian, Director General of the Brazilian Forest Service

Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Garo Batmanian, Director General of the Brazilian Forest Service, who has extensive international experience in sustainable forest management and forest and biodiversity restoration.
Garo Batmanian has held senior positions at the World Bank for many years, coordinating global forest and landscape programmes.
The parties discussed opportunities for applying international best practices in Armenia’s forest sector in cooperation with the “Armforest” SNCO of the Ministry of Environment of the RA, including the introduction of innovative monitoring methods, strengthening technical capacities, and developing joint initiatives that could contribute to advancing Armenia’s forest and biodiversity policy.
They also emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in the effective organization of COP17 in Armenia and in the implementation of long-term environmental programmes.
The Minister presented the ongoing preparatory work for COP17, stressing that Armenia aims to host the conference at a high level, creating an international platform for discussions on biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, and the sustainable development of nature-based value chains.
