Until September 1, 2024, fishermen can apply for a legal catch within the quota of around 257 tons. Minister Hakob Simidyan presented the decision on approving the amount of commercial fishing of whitefish in Lake Sevan.
Minister Hakob Simidyan presented the draft of the Government's decision "On making an addition to the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia dated September 28, 2023 N 1656-N" for discussion at today's Government session.
"In 2024, the scientific hunting studies conducted by the Scientific Center of Zoology and Hydroecology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia in Lake Sevan and the results of discussions with the center served as the basis for setting the quantities of fishing for industrial purposes of whitefish in Lake Sevan in 2024.
Based on the data obtained as a result of studies, the total stock of whitefish in Lake Sevan by the Scientific Center was 3947 tons, of which the total industrial stock was 513 tons. The Scientific Center has proposed 257 tons of industrial use from the total bio-stock for 2024 until September 1.
After making the decision, fishermen can apply to the ministry to get a legal quota for hunting," the minister said in his speech.
