After a long hiatus, the red deer that were released into the wild have returned to the center—this time with a newborn calf. This is not only a joyful moment, but also a symbolic one, serving as evidence that the resettlement process is yielding natural and encouraging results.
The “Reintroduction of the Red Deer in Armenia” program was launched in 2013 and has been successfully implemented through the collaboration of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, WWF Armenia, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), KfW Development Bank, WWF Germany, and the Caucasus Nature Fund (CNF).
Key Milestones of the “Reintroduction of the Red Deer in Armenia” program:
In October 2022, the first group of three red deer was released into the wild in Dilijan National Park.
On September 13, 2024, a second group of ten deer was reintroduced.
On May 22, 2025, in honor of the International Day for Biological Diversity, a third group of nine red deer was transferred to the forests surrounding Yeghegnut Village, Lori Region.
This latest encounter serves as a powerful reminder that nature responds with gratitude to efforts aimed at its protection and restoration.
