The Latest Forest Fires Were Discussed at the Roundtable of the "Forest Alliance" Initiative

The main topics of the roundtable discussion organized by the “Forest Alliance” were the formation of new approaches to afforestation in Armenia and the legislative reforms necessary to ensure them.
During the discussion, Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan made a speech, addressing the difficult situation of forest fires in recent days and the priorities of developments in the forest sector.
“We are facing a serious challenge in this period: forest fires breaking out simultaneously in several regions threaten the forest fund, settlements, biodiversity and the safety of citizens. High temperatures, strong winds and dry weather caused by climate change contribute to the spread of fires, complicating response efforts.
All relevant state structures—including the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the RA, the Ministry of Defense of the RA, forestry services and community authorities—are operating around the clock, mobilizing all available human and technical resources.
I highly appreciate the efforts of our rescuers, foresters, volunteers and community members who are risking their lives to combat the fires,” he noted.
Additional rapid response teams have been deployed, and measures are being taken to prevent the further spread of the fires as quickly as possible.
This situation also demonstrates the need to significantly strengthen the forest fire prevention system at the legal, organizational and technical levels. Continuous introduction of modern monitoring solutions, enhancement of rapid response mechanisms, development of aviation capabilities and increased public awareness are essential.
The Minister noted that at this stage there is no need for assistance from volunteer groups and expressed gratitude to citizens and partners for their offers of support.
