The number of imports of electric cars to the Republic of Armenia has sharply increased

In order to reduce environmental pollution and reduce the amount of exhaust gases, the Republic of Armenia is trying to develop the infrastructure necessary to launch electric vehicles and adapt legislation to further increase the temptation to buy an electric vehicle.
On December 10, 2021, the National Assembly adopted the law "On Amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia", according to which the grace period for value added tax in terms of import and (or) alienation of electric vehicles under codes 8702 40 000, 8703 80 000 and 8711 60 HS of the EAEU was extended until January 1 2024.
On March 17, 2022, a customs privilege was introduced for the import of electric vehicles into the territory of the Republic of Armenia without payment of import customs duties, which is valid until 2023. December 31 inclusive.
As a result of the reforms, during the 1st half of 2022, the number of exclusively electric cars imported into Armenia has increased dramatically.

-2020 – 2155 t/m
- 2021. – 6645 t/m
- 2022. first semester-7181 t/m
It should also be noted that since January 2022, the grant program "technical advisory assistance to Armenia in creating mobility opportunities for electric vehicles", funded by the Green Climate Foundation /GCF, has been launched, which includes 4 components:
- to assist the Ministry in developing a policy to stimulate electric vehicles, legislative regulation,
- conduct methodological consultations with the private sector in order to design and implement innovative financial instruments and market models,
- develop a plan to launch electric charging stations for electric vehicles and related infrastructure,
- develop an awareness-raising campaign aimed at promoting electric vehicles in the country.
With the financing of the Global Environmental Fund, the state institution "Office for the Implementation of Environmental Programs" of the Ministry of the Environment has been "switching to electric vehicles in Armenia since 2021. The program "strengthening the demonstration and promotion of electric vehicles", in which strategic planning of low-carbon vehicles is planned/mobility and institutional system reform.
Within the framework of the program, it is also planned to develop an electric mobility strategy.
