Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan Met with Deborah Barasa, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of Kenya

Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Deborah Barasa, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry of the Republic of Kenya.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in the areas of environmental protection, climate action, and forestry. Both ministers underscored the importance of sharing experience, implementing sustainable development programs, and strengthening international cooperation to effectively address global environmental challenges.
Minister Matevosyan noted that Armenia is ready to advance cooperation across various sectors based on mutual interest.
The discussion also touched upon preparations for COP17. The Minister emphasized Armenia’s readiness to cooperate with partner countries to ensure the effective organization of the conference, and expressed hope for the participation of a high-level delegation from Kenya.
COP17 will serve as a significant milestone in advancing the implementation of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. In this context, Armenia, as the COP17 Presidency, encourages all Parties to submit their national reports by February 2026 to enable a comprehensive and representative global assessment.
Minister Matevosyan expressed confidence that Kenya—an active actor in the fields of climate and biodiversity and the host country of the UNEP Secretariat—will play an important role in supporting the preparatory work for COP17 and contributing to the successful convening of the conference.
