The Ministry of Environment of the RA and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at collaboratively promoting biodiversity conservation and fostering resilient ecosystems in local communities.
The memorandum was signed by Aram Meymaryan, Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, and Nanna Skau, Representative and Director of the UN WFP Armenia Office.
Scope and Key Areas of Cooperation
The primary objective of the memorandum is to establish an operational framework for collaboration on environmental initiatives, focusing on the following key areas:

  • Biodiversity conservation through ecosystem promotion and sustainable land use practices;
  • Water management through the implementation of equitable access, resource conservation, and sustainable water supply strategies;
  • Implementation of agroforestry pilot projects to increase agricultural productivity and ecosystem health;
  • Design and implementation of programs aimed at community adaptation and mitigation in response to the impacts of climate change;
  • Localization of international best practices in nature-based solutions, including the training of Ministry of Environment (MoE) staff and the implementation of demonstration projects.

Through the signed memorandum, the parties reaffirm their commitment to developing specific action plans in the future, based on available resources and jointly developed separate agreements.
“We deeply value this memorandum not only as a document for cooperation, but also as a symbol of shared responsibility and a forward-looking environmental partnership. Building community resilience must be at the heart of our environmental policy, and we are pleased to have a reliable and experienced partner on this journey,” noted the Deputy Minister.
As the world’s largest humanitarian organization, the UN World Food Programme views climate resilience and environmental protection as essential components of food security, disaster prevention, and sustainable community development.
The memorandum is valid until December 31, 2026 and and includes provisions for regular consultations to monitor the progress of the implemented programs, assess outcomes, and refine strategic approaches as needed. At the conclusion of the event, the parties exchanged symbolic gifts.
