Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, and sectoral representatives of the committee established to organize and conduct COP17. The discussion focused on the ongoing preparatory work for the conference, particularly on infrastructure development and ensuring the high-level organization of the event.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed cooperation with the leaders of the “Meridian” Expo Center, focusing on the renovation, construction, and modernization processes to ensure that the venue meets international standards and fully satisfies the requirements of COP17.
To ensure the event is organized at a high level, the 2025 state budget of the Republic of Armenia includes a reallocation of funds specifically for the organization of COP17. These resources will be used to upgrade and equip the “Meridian” Expo Center with modern technical facilities.
The aim is to showcase Armenia as a responsible country with modern infrastructure and a strong commitment to environmental values, hosting the COP17 at a high level.
