Within the framework of COP30, Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, met with Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of the Environment and Energy Security of Italy.
During the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral environmental cooperation, particularly the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Development signed on 7 October 2021. The parties reaffirmed their readiness to cooperate in the areas of climate change mitigation and adaptation, disaster risk management, biodiversity conservation, forest and water resource management, effective waste management, and promotion of the circular economy.
Minister Matevosyan welcomed the important decisions adopted during the resumed session of COP16, noting that Armenia highly values the commitment and efforts of the Parties to the Convention. These results once again demonstrate that multilateral cooperation is an effective tool for addressing global biodiversity challenges.
The meeting also touched upon preparations for COP17, highlighting the importance of experience exchange, joint programmes, and high-level participation.
At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to deepen cooperation and jointly implement initiatives that will further strengthen the environmental partnership between Armenia and Italy.
