Minister of Environment Hakob Simidyan met the delegation led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland Kirsti Narinen
The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Aram Meymaryan and Levon Azizyan, director of the "Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center" of the MoE
In his welcoming speech, Minister Hakob Simidyan referred to the close Armenian-Finnish cooperation in the field of environmental protection and expressed readiness for even closer cooperation, taking into account the vast experience of the Finnish side in the field of effective environmental management.
Let's remind that the Twinning project "Strengthened protection and sustainable use of biodiversity in Armenia in accordance with European standards" was implemented under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and the consortium of the Czech Republic and the Republic of Finland. The aim of the project was to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Environment in the field of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in order to fulfill the obligations under the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and its roadmap.
A wide range of sectoral issues were discussed during the meeting. The minister presented to his colleagues the main reforms implemented during the previous year.
Reference was made to the early warning system and the development and strengthening of the monitoring capacity of hydrometeorological services in that context.
The parties exchanged views on the possibilities of implementation of joint programs and exchange of experience.
Reference was also made to the issue of afforestation and reforestation. The Finnish side presented its experience in nursery operations and offered to create a training opportunity for Armenian specialists.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue discussions on directions of cooperation of mutual interest and exchange of experience.
