Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, received Gevorg Machanyan, Executive Director of ArmSwissBank CJSC and Ara Makaryan, Deputy Executive Director. The discussion focused on new approaches to mitigating the effects of climate change in Armenia, advancing sustainable development, and strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors.
The Minister emphasized that the accreditation of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) by ArmSwissBank is an important step forward for Armenia. For the first time, a private institution in the country was entrusted with such a mandate by an international financial body. This recognition underscores both the reliability of Armenia’s financial system and the international community’s confidence in the country’s climate agenda.
The parties discussed potential avenues of cooperation, particularly projects that could be implemented with GCF financing. The Bank’s possible support for the organization of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) was also highlighted as a key direction, which could significantly contribute to the successful hosting of the event.
An agreement was reached to continue close cooperation and jointly develop projects that both address environmental challenges and actively involve the private sector in tackling climate issues.
