The 23rd meeting of the National Water Policy Dialogue of Armenia took place. This regular cross-sectoral dialogue is part of the country’s long-term efforts to reform water policies and practices, in line with national objectives, EU and international commitments. The dialogue includes a broad representation of national and local governments, academic and non-governmental stakeholders, as well as the international community.
The meeting, chaired by the Ministry of Environment of the RA and organized within the framework of the “EU4Green Recovery” programme, was dedicated to the recently launched process of developing the Water Sector Strategy of Armenia as a comprehensive approach of the Government of Armenia towards socio-economic development and strengthening resilience to growing pressures, including climate change. During the discussion, recommendations were presented to link the activities implemented in the water sector with the priorities of the Water Sector Strategy of Armenia. Issues related to the interdependence of water resources and biodiversity were also discussed in the context of the 17th meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, planned for next year.
More than 50 representatives from the Ministry of Environment of the RA, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the RA, the Ministry of Finance of the RA, the Ministry of Health of the RA, the Ministry of Economy of the RA, as well as universities, institutes, NGOs, the EU Delegation to Armenia, international financial institutions and programs attended the meeting.
