Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenian Foreign Minister Signed the Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity in Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction, Adopted Under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea

Within the framework of the third UN Ocean Conference, Ararat Mirzoyan, Foreign Minister of Armenia, on behalf of the Republic of Armenia, signed the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction.
This is the first international agreement aimed at regulating the conservation of marine biodiversity beyond national boundaries, as a component of ensuring sustainable development.
On the same day, the agreement was simultaneously signed by 18 countries, raising the total number of signatories to 134.
To date, it has been ratified by 50 countries, 18 of which deposited their instruments of ratification with the depositary during the same official ceremony held as part of the conference.
