At the initiative of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body of the RA, a professional discussion was held to address the challenges and plan future actions concerning wild animals kept in captivity or semi-free conditions in the Republic of Armenia without the necessary permits.
The meeting was organized to discuss the issues raised at the meeting of the Committee formed to organize and conduct the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The discussion addressed the legal issues surrounding the keeping of wild animals without permits, the improvement of monitoring and enforcement mechanisms, and the need to enhance the relevant legislative framework. Particular attention was given to clarifying the legal status of animals, streamlining the permitting and oversight processes, and defining clear responsibilities.
