Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan Participated in the “Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet” High-Level Discussion

Within the framework of the 7th session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), Hambardzum Matevosyan, Minister of Environment of the RA, participated in the “Advancing Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Planet” high-level discussion during which he presented the National Statement of the Republic of Armenia and delivered a speech.
In his remarks, he emphasized that environmental protection, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and strengthening the country’s resilience are strategic priorities for Armenia. He noted that a number of strategic and institutional measures are being developed and implemented, aimed at:

  • reducing greenhouse gas emissions,
  • increasing capacity to withstand climate risks,
  • developing the circular economy, and
  • promoting sustainable mobility.

The Minister highlighted that natural capital accounting and the valuation of ecosystem services should become an integral part of national planning and investment decisions, and that innovative financial instruments should serve as a bridge between conservation and development.
Hambardzum Matevosyan stressed that no country can ensure environmental resilience alone, and that global cooperation is crucial in this process.
Armenia is preparing to host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Yerevan in October 2026, which will be an important platform to assess progress in implementing the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and shape the future pathway toward its goals.
The Minister reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness and commitment to continue working for a safer and more sustainable future.
